  D.E. Pool Filter Parts

There are various DE pool filter parts needed for the proper operation of your pool filtration system, some of which may wear out and need replacement in time.

The different types of pool filters do their job by passing water through some filtering medium such as sand or clay to remove particulate matter. The smaller the spaces in this medium, the smaller the particles being removed. Since the ideal is to remove all particles down to the smallest possible size, it is preferable to use a filtering medium with the smallest possible spaces.

That's why diatomaceous earth (DE) is such an effective filtering medium for pool filtration systems. It is composed of the shells of ancient microorganisms which are shaped like tiny tubes. Because they are highly porous they allow water to pass freely, but since the spaces inside and between these tubes are very small, they trap even microscopic particles. These tubes are typically only 10 to 200 micrometers in size, much smaller than grains of sand, so DE filters can remove even smaller particles than sand filters do.

In a DE pool filter, this principal is put to use by passing the water through a series of grids holding membranes coated with diatomaceous earth. Of course, as the filter removes particles from the water, they build up in the filter and eventually need to be cleaned out. To do this, air pressure must be relieved using a manual relief valve and the grids must be removed and soaked in a solution of filter cleaner.

To ensure that this process happens smoothly and dependably, it is important to get DE pool filter parts as soon as they are needed.

Since the pressure relief valve and valve nuts are moving parts, they will eventually wear out and need to be replaced. It is important to replace these DE pool filter parts as soon as they begin to show significant wear in order to ensure proper operation. The manual air relief valve assembly may also need to be replaced in time.

The filtration system will also use rubber O-rings as gaskets. These are some of the most common DE pool filter parts to wear out and must be replaced periodically to ensure good sealing.

The filter assembly itself should be monitored for wear and replaced if its performance declines. The plastic filter grids may become cracked or split with use and eventually need replacement.

Other DE pool filter parts that must be replaced from time to time are the breather tube assembly, the pressure gauges of the assembly and the filter tank top. Of course, one should pay close attention to the various bolts and nuts holding the whole thing together, which can cause malfunction and much frustration if they wear out.

Paying attention to the condition of your filtration system and obtaining DE pool filter parts when needed will avoid more expensive and annoying problems later on.
